Patience Found
A lovely work by Iva O. called "Patience Found". The title really resonates with the images; I picture the butterfly very patiently trying to find it's way out through the ribbon lattice! I love the other bugs and interesting papers in the background too.

Artist's Comments: "This is a one of a kind 8x8 inch art squared piece on canvas board. The image is of an abstract, hand painted watercolor butterfly surrounded by a collage of hand made papers. 'Patience Found' is about finding peace and calm while living in a fast paced world. There is a lot of texture in this artwork that can only be seen in person. This is the first of five I plan to create in this series. They will all be for sale once they are done."

Cosmic Thing
This is one of my own art squared pieces. It started out as a pencil doodle while I was watching a movie and just ended up as something that looked like abstract or surreal album cover art from the 70's. The name 'Cosmic Thing' just seemed appropriate.

Free Lulu Abstracts
I found the Free Lulu site one day and loved the variety of designs that they sell on square ceramic tiles (especially the abstract pieces). Some of my favorites are featured below - the first three are from the 'Doodle' category and the second three are part of the 'Color Block' series:

Many of these interesting abstract works of art can also be found on throw pillows too! They also have billiard designs, kids illustrations, fruit crate labels, butterflies, etc., all square. Click here to check out the entire shop.Labels: Digital Art

Dogs, Monkeys, Robots et al
Julien Chung has a fantastic illustrative style that you can't help grinning at, and which also makes excellent use of the square format, as in the examples below:

It's a simple cartooning style, but one that you can tell looks simple because it's been thoroughly practiced and perfected. And he has quite a knack for animal expressions that just makes me laugh. A statement from his site: "Julien Chung is a Canadian artist and designer. Maskarade started out as a pet project inspired by the household animals - a dog and a lovebird. The drawings soon evolved into colorful and whimsical animal designs for the paper products and home decor industries." Click here to visit his shop, "Maskarade", and check out the rest of his cartoon art, square or not.Labels: Drawings-Illustrations
