Robot Rock

I love that an illustration of a robot (rocking out) looks to be drawn on a background that resembles ancient Egyptian papyrus or something! (It's actually done on textured card stock.) Anyway, it's a terrific classic robot - I could easily see this as a background character in Furutama - LOL.

Epicentre Fire

I think the artist's description of this piece is just as creative as the image itself: "The transcendental art of fire dancing, combined with a backdrop of stark, urban-industrial desolation. The background represents the state of one's life (like the inside of their mind) and the subject twirling fire represents the transmuting of this apathy of existence into the realization that there is so much more to life and the Universe than what is going on in their head."

Art of Bonsai II

I love the under saturated colors in Art of Bonsai II by Merri Pattinian. And I've always thought Bonsai trees were rather clever creations, but not something I would probably tend to properly. Much better to get Bonsai art to hang on the wall!

(Click on the image or any links in this post to get framed or unframed prints of this bonsai art.)

Terp the Treefrog

Terp the Treefrog by Anton Peck is a terrific creation that's also a character in a book by the artist!

Square 5T8YY

Today's pick is Square 5T8YY by Meier Gallery

Square 5T8YY by Meier Gallery

Because this is offered by a gallery (via Imagekind) instead of the artist itself, I'm not really sure what the medium used is, OR the artist's name, but I still loved the piece! So wonderfully wispy!

Contemplating the Moon

In my occasional journeys through various art blogs, I sometimes run across a wonderful artist who does a lot of work in square formats, like with Contemplating the Moon. Just stop by and soak up all the wonderful mixed media visuals by Bridgette Guerzon Mills - caution: you might be there a while!

Celtic Compass

As many art squared works often are, this is a squared circle, but in a familiar old form: An elaborate golden compass made of Celtic knotwork, with silver and copper metallic accents on the face and corners as well. Degrees are marked off from 10-90 in each quadrant. Around the compass, all four cardinal points are labeled in engraved Irish-Gaelic on brass plates, subpoints are labeled in Irish-Gaelic, and twelve elemental points as well: earth, storm, lightning, metal, air, sun, wind, wood, water, fire, spirit, stone. Also, subtle, decorative rune work is engraved on an inner ring.

Patience Found

A lovely work by Iva O. called "Patience Found". The title really resonates with the images; I picture the butterfly very patiently trying to find it's way out through the ribbon lattice! I love the other bugs and interesting papers in the background too.

Artist's Comments: "This is a one of a kind 8x8 inch art squared piece on canvas board. The image is of an abstract, hand painted watercolor butterfly surrounded by a collage of hand made papers. 'Patience Found' is about finding peace and calm while living in a fast paced world. There is a lot of texture in this artwork that can only be seen in person. This is the first of five I plan to create in this series. They will all be for sale once they are done."

Click the image to see this work in the artist's shop and to purchase the original art itself. Also, make sure to check out the other wonderful creations in her etsy shop!
