Blueberries in a Bowl

A friend of mine brought this photograph to my attention. First, nothing like a good 'circle-squared' type image. But it's the simplicity of the shot that did it for me - the black and white of the overall photo with just BARELY any blue in the blueberries? Sweet! Crystal Evolution 1.1a by Algofractals really caught my eye. I love the shape-abstracted form and how it's not as "enclosed" as a typical yin-yang would be. And the straw-like textures in the background are cool - like electronic static.

I love the under saturated colors in Art of Bonsai II by Merri Pattinian. And I've always thought Bonsai trees were rather clever creations, but not something I would probably tend to properly. Much better to get Bonsai art to hang on the wall!

Uplifting

When I first came across "Uplifting" by Phil Hilfiker it just made me grin...

This photo is littered with dual features. First, the monochrome background in contrast with the bright colors in the socks. Second, the two feet themselves (okay, that may be pushing it, but I'm still going to count it.) And third, the title, "Uplifting" - referring to the cheerful vibes of the socks AND the escalator itself moving upwards. Sweet!

St. Mark's Square

St. Mark's Square by Janeen Wassink is a wonderful ambiatic (is that a word?) photo with some very special techniques applied to get that final look. "An unusual take on a familiar landmark scene. I used a vintage toy camera to capture this scene shot from St. Mark's Square in Venice, Italy. Light leaks in the plastic camera gave the image the unique tonal bands. I then added the pink, yellow, and inky blue colors, and added the lamplight glow in Adobe Photoshop."

Just spectacular!

I'm a fan of abstract art and find it amazing that I can just stare at an abstract painting for a long time, just soaking up all the subtle nuances in color, shape, and texture. Parcours by Sylvie Schmitt is an excellent example:

There's a wonderful complexity and symmetry about this piece that keeps pulling the mind back into it!

Cave Painting

Today's post is about CavePainting by Kim Moreno. It's a work of digital art, although you wouldn't necessarily guess that at first.

Fabulous earthtones, lots of intimations of movement combined with a fading out of the beasts like they are showing they belong to history instead of the present. I also love the metallic-like wavy hoops that accent the square image so nicely!

I love the technicolor feel of this photograph, taken in Essaouria, Morocco - this perspective is apparently a classic shot of these fishing boats. I also love the darkened corners, like the photo had been locked in a trunk in someone's attic for 30 years before it was found and framed.

A Cursed Painting?

The interesting thing about this supposedly cursed painting is that it's not just one painting that's apparently cursed. This painting is actually mass-produced, but that doesn't seem to have stopped the strange events that seem to follow many of these copies, like a house burning down and everything but the painting being completely destroyed. Just heard some cool news from Imagekind! Now you can sell or print up to 24 of the images in your Flickr account through Imagekind! I'm guessing you'll have to upload high-res images in Flickr for this to be possible, but luckily, you can make just smaller versions of them available for online viewing.

And more news... Imagekind is now offering ready-made frames in standard sizes if you want a slightly less expensive framing option, including collage frames - very cool!

Celtic Triskele

This design of mine is a rough/primitive Celtic Triskele, with Celtic knotwork, in greens for the traditional colors associated with Ireland and St. Patrick.

It's a modern take on a rather traditional tri-spiral design that you'll see all over Ireland, carved in stone, etc.
